National Culture
Rule of law – King’s word is practically law – Bright Blade is near-worshiped as the chief mechanism through which Zarus’ desires are known, and its holder (the Emperor) is the final arbiter of the Law. Occasionally, if an Emperor displeases Zarus to a great degree, the Bright Blade will turn on him (or her), and that ruler is typically deposed by a blood relative. Politics, politics, politics.

There are seven days of the week: Diagott, Diamen, Diawer, Diagno, Diamer, Diaroc, Diablin. From Old Human, they translate roughly to: Day of the Gods, Day of the Men, Day of the Dwarves, Day of the Gnomes, Day of the Elves, Day of the Orcs, and Day of the Goblins. Across the Empire, Diagott is recognized as the Holy Day.

Regional Attitudes
Each region is ruled by a different Noble House – specific attitudes of the Nobility in each of the provinces are mentioned there.

Cultures of the different races & regions – some bullet points

Humans:

  • Inspired by Greece and Rome
  • Primarily live in villages or city-states
  • Their ancient language, Old Human, is rarely spoken and rarely used. It was the precursor to the Common Tongue in use today, and while Old Human isn’t a lost language, Common has replaced it as the Human lingua fraca. This language is primarily used in Imperial Law documents, and the term Emperor is derived from the Old Human word for “War Leader.” It can also be seen in the names of the days of the common week. Orcs:

  • Inspired by Native Americans and/or Bedouins
  • The most important fact to remember concerning the Empire’s Orcish population is that they were once conquered and enslaved. Their traditional, ancestral culture was mostly forgotten and their political unity as a nation-race was lost, for a time; there was a revival in Orcish culture starting in the 1200s, though it did not manage to separate the Orcs from the Empire

Gnomes:

Elves:

  • Inspired by Far-East Asian Buddhists
  • The Elves, as a racial group, were best described as “mystical individualists.”
  • Not technically citizens, but are not persecuted against.
